Body Positivity: For Catholics

Are you looking for a concise video to help you dig into what the Church teaches about the goodness of our bodies?

This is one of those areas where most Catholics will nod and say, "Yeah, I think my body is good," but we quickly can get confused if we think about what St. Paul says negatively about "the flesh" as being opposed to "the spirit" and we wrestle with some of the difficult aspects of living in a body. (Side note: there's a LOT of ground that could be covered if we want to dive into St. Paul on these points, but suffice it to say for now-- "the flesh" isn't equivalent to "the body")

So if you want something quick and accessible, especially for a teenage or young adult crowd, I'd love to introduce you to the work of The Culture Project!

I love The Culture Project and would highly recommend them if you are looking to bring programming to your school or church community! They have four standard programs:

  • Human Dignity
  • Sexual Integrity
  • Social Media
  • Parent Presentation

But they also have a Youtube channel with some simple but effective "talking-head" style videos (the sort that I do) which teach about various topics related to Catholicism and family/life/sexuality/body/life issues!

I think Parker does a great job in this video of laying out a truly Catholic understanding of "body positivity" and why nudity when viewed properly (like in the Sistine Chapel) is actually instructive of the dignity of the human person and our relationship to God.

It'll only take about 7 minutes to get through, and I think lays a great foundation! Check it out here:
